The cycle of open popular science lectures continues at the YURSPU (NPI) as part of the implementation of the strategic project "Hydrogen Energy Systems" within the framework of the Strategic Academic Leadership Program "Priority 2030". On October 26, the series was continued by the head of the laboratory "New and composite and functional materials with special properties", Candidate of Chemical Sciences Anna Ulyankina. The topic of her lecture is "Green catalysis".
The speaker began her communication with the audience with a story about the impact on the ecology of human activity in general and modern energy, in particular. Anna elaborated on the topic of "green" energy, that is, one that causes minimal harm to the environment or does not affect it at all.
The phrase "green catalysis" is usually called such a type of chemical reactions that are needed for the transformation of substances, occurs using accelerator compounds, and most importantly - without affecting the environment. The task of modern chemists working on research in the designated area is to find the most effective catalysts possible, and create with their help safe, environmentally friendly, efficient alternative energy sources.
The head of the youth work told about the achievements of polytechnics in this field, as well as about the most interesting tasks that chemists have yet to solve.
