Anna Ulyankina, a graduate student of the YURSPU (NPI) Faculty of Technology, an engineer at the Research Institute of Nanotechnology and New Materials, is a real role model. A pretty, feminine and very modest young lady with versatile hobbies proves step by step to herself and the entire scientific community that she is becoming a serious scientist. Speaking at seminars and conferences, participating in competitions and projects, writing articles - each of her "publication" is successful and serves as an excuse to write about it.
Anna became interested in chemistry at school, and by the ninth grade she decided that she would take the Unified State Exam in chemistry and enter the South Russian State Polytechnic University (NPI). Anna listened to her mother's advice to think about some more humanitarian and creative profession, but remained true to her decision. "After all, chemistry is also a certain kind of creativity," says our heroine. "And science is all about creativity!"
A resident of the small village of Zaluzhny in the Oktyabrsky district, Anna came to take the Unified State Exam on the basis of the YURSPU (NPI), and came here to enroll. The girl began to study science at the magistracy, a capable student was noticed by the heads of several scientific laboratories by that time, and Anna had a wide choice. She focused her attention on the Laboratory of Electrochemistry and hybrid materials, and since then her supervisor has been Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor N.V. Smirnova. The opportunity to participate in conferences and seminars, scientific competitions – all this inspired Anna. Nina Vladimirovna became for a talented girl not just a supervisor, mentor in the profession, but also a teacher who revealed the secrets of human communication in various life situations. "Nina Vladimirovna inspires us with words that one should never stop at what has been achieved, one should always strive for more, go forward, even if it seems difficult or even impossible," says Anna. - You need to believe in yourself, and then everything will work out."
Anna joined the team led by N.V. Smirnova, who worked on the creation of hydrogen fuel cell power plants for quadrocopters as part of the NTI technology competition "First Element. Air." However, Anna did not manage to reach the final stage together with the team members – she was waiting for a six-month internship in Germany, at the Technical University of Dresden. The research conducted during this time together with colleagues from different countries formed the basis of a scientific article that is about to be published in a highly rated journal. "I hope for the speedy publication of the article and the continuation of cooperation with colleagues," says Anna.
In 2019, Anna became a laureate of the Academician I.I. Vorovich Competition. This competition was announced by the Rostov Branch of the Russian Engineering Academy and the North Caucasus Research Center of the Higher School of the Southern Federal University in order to identify the best work in the field of fundamental and applied engineering research among young engineers and scientists of universities, research institutes, specialists of enterprises of the Rostov region. Anna Ulyankina's work "Development of an electrochemical approach to the synthesis of photocatalytically active nanomaterials for water purification from organic pollutants" was recognized as one of the best.
Anna became one of the fellows of the President of the Russian Federation in the 2019/2020 academic year.
A very "fresh" success - on June 2, the results of the competitions for the selection of projects under the "Start" program were approved. Among the winners of the Start-1 competition is Anna Ulyankina's project "Development of electrochemical technology for obtaining zeolite-containing nanomaterials for photocatalytic water purification".
Among Anna's unscientific hobbies are poetry, dancing and needlework. There is no time left for choreography and knitting now, but the sense of the word, the ability to express a thought helps a young scientist a lot in scientific work. Currently, Anna is finishing work on her dissertation on the development of an electrochemical method for obtaining photo- and electroactive materials, metal oxides, and plans to defend herself by the end of 2020. There is no doubt that she will succeed this time too!
The formula of success from Anna Ulyankina: "Don't stop there! Do not be afraid that something will not work out, that you will not be appreciated. In these cases, I remember the phrase: "It is better to do and regret than not to do and regret." Don't give up, go ahead and don't be afraid of anything!"
