Employees of YURGPU(NPI) - Anna Ulyankina, assistant of the Department of "Technologies of New and Mobile Energy Sources", Tatiana Molodtsova, PhD student, Professor of the Department of "Chemical Technologies" Nina Vladimirovna Smirnova, co-authored with Gianaurelio Cuniberti, Professor of the Dresden Technical University (h-index 53) and scientists from other universities of Russia and the world, published an article in early December "Photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin in water in the presence of nanoscale ZnO, obtained by electrochemical method under the action of alternating pulse current" ("Photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin in water at nano-ZnO prepared by pulse alternating current electrochemical synthesis") in the Journal of Water Process Engineering, which is included in Q1.

Ciprofloxacin is a broad-spectrum synthetic antibiotic from the group of fluoroquinolones, which is often present in hospital drains, sewage treatment plants and surface waters. The research of our scientists is devoted to the development of effective photocatalysts for wastewater treatment from organic pollutants. The article discusses the features of photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin in the presence of nanoscale zinc oxide synthesized by an environmentally friendly electrochemical method using alternating pulse current in electrolytes of different composition.

The beginning of scientific cooperation with the group of Professor Gianaurelio Cuniberti was initiated as part of an internship by a graduate student of our university Anna Ulyankina at the Technical University of Dresden under the Mikhail Lomonosov program, which is funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation jointly with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Anna conducted research work at this university, during which a novice scientist from Novocherkassk and a professor from Germany formed common topics for scientific research.

In addition to our chemists, the authors of the publication included scientists from the National Research Technological University "MISIS", the Southern Federal University, the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the Technical University of Dresden.
