A WORLD-RENOWNED SCIENTIST HIGHLY APPRECIATED THE WORK WITH NPI CHEMISTS

Today, a well-known Russian chemist, head of the laboratory of the N. D. Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IOH RAS), corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Chemical Sciences V.P. Ananikov visited YURGPU (NPI) on a working visit. Valentin Pavlovich discussed the work on joint projects with scientists of our university and gave a popular science lecture for students.

The name of Valentin Annikov is widely known in scientific circles around the world. He is the author of more than 300 scientific papers, who is actively published and quoted by the most highly rated international publications. Among young chemists, Ananikov is a recognized "star", and not only in our country. Valentin Pavlovich has long-standing partnerships with YURSPU (NPI). Our chemists conduct their research jointly and under the guidance of a well-known scientist. V.P. Ananikov also heads the basic Department of "Chemical Sciences" of the YURSPU (NPI) at the IOH RAS. During today's visit, the scientist talked with several research teams at once.

- Over the years of my cooperation with YURGPU (NPI), we have formed a stable cooperation with university scientists. My visit today is diverse," said Valentin Pavlovich. - We have discussed several topics within which we are conducting research.

One of such global topics is chemical processing of a renewable resource – plant biomass. This composition is in great demand today. The whole world science is focused on obtaining various materials from natural biomass. Scientists will soon be basing a lot of new technologies on this approach. The project, which is being led by our chemists from the Nanotechnology Research Center together with Ananikov's team, is related to the processing of biomass to create various carbon compounds. And already from them it is possible to obtain catalysts, sorbents, and other materials with unique properties.

This work is extremely promising. So, according to its results, a team of scientists prepared and published a scientific article in the very famous journal "ChemSusChem". The article was on the cover and caused a wide resonance in the global chemical community. Today it is one of the most frequently cited publications among all the scientists of our university who have come from the pen!

- This is an undoubted success, this is international recognition, - V. P. Ananikov said, addressing his Novocherkassk colleagues. – I want to note that few publications of Russian scientists in general achieve such notable results! Taking into account the fact that you managed to make such a breakthrough in a relatively short period, I can say that the work at your university and specifically at the CCP has been set and is being carried out very effectively. We will definitely develop cooperation in the field of new materials, and have already discussed plans in this direction for next year.

Another area of cooperation between YURGPU (NPI) and IOH RAS is the production of new legends and the development of homogeneous catalytic systems. Historically, this is the first area in which our scientists started working together more than 10 years ago.

- In this topic we are working with a group led by V.M. Chernyshev.  We once started with simple projects, simple syntheses and studies of catalytic activity. But this work was developing rapidly, and the group of scientists in Novocherkassk was evolving at an amazing speed," the guest noted. – When we started, it was a new scientific direction, no one had published articles on this topic before us. And here, at the NPI, young scientists have taken up this new topic, and over the few years that they have been working on it, there has been a huge leap forward.

In the second part of the working program of the visit, V.P. Ananikov talked with a team of scientists led by Professor A.P. Savostyanov. It was also about joint research and work planning for the near future. Assessing the scientific potential of Novocherkassk chemists, V.P. Ananikov noted that a very highly qualified group had been selected at the university. At the same time, he repeatedly stressed that in recent years our scientists have made significant progress in their work:

- Together we have published a whole series of interesting articles, the last of which was published in the top American magazine "ACS Catalysis". It is amazing that in such a relatively short period of time it was possible to prepare such a significant publication. This kind of work adorns any university. In Russia, articles reaching such a citation level are isolated cases.

A significant part of the work during this visit was devoted to planning research and publications for the coming year. Together, scientists from Novocherkassk and Moscow will also have to form applications for grants. Valentin Pavlovich Ananikov noted the growing quality of personnel, stressed the importance of increasing the number of research groups and expressed firm confidence that his cooperation with our Faculty of Technology will continue and strengthen.

It is already a tradition for such visits to become popular scientific lectures, which the famous chemist reads for all interested students of YURGPU (NPI). This time, in the first chemical audience, he spoke about current trends in science and the revolution that was made by devices that allow us to study the most complex chemical processes visually. In particular, they talked about how electron microscopes that have become affordable and universal have changed chemistry.

The visit of the famous scientist ended on a positive note. Agreements have been reached on the continuation of cooperation, tasks have been set for the coming year, interim results have been summed up. Then – the movement to new victories and discoveries.
