Today, on May 20, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Alexander Petrovich Savostyanov celebrates his 70th birthday. Currently, the hero of the day is a professor of the Department of "Chemical Technologies", previously for 15 years he held the positions of head of the Department of "Chemical Technology of High Molecular Compounds, Organic, Physical and colloidal Chemistry", "Chemical Technologies", director of the Research Institute "Nanotechnology and New Materials", as well as Vice-rector for Scientific Work of YURGPU (NPI).

Alexander Petrovich is a well-known scientist who has made a significant contribution to the development of scientific research in the field of heterogeneous catalysis, energy-efficient production and conversion of energy on organic fuels, allowing to expand the raw material base of the chemical and petrochemical industries, to improve the environmental safety of the processes of extraction and processing of natural and associated petroleum gases into motor fuels and valuable chemicals. In his works, Professor Savostyanov scientifically justified the use of silicate and aluminosilicate natural resources of the Rostov region in various industries and agro-industrial complex.

According to the research results, the hero of the day has published more than 230 scientific papers and patents of the Russian Federation. His developments have found application in production and have been implemented at a number of enterprises, including Samara Catalyst Plant CJSC, Empils OJSC, Tsimlyansky Machine-Building Plant LLC and others. Under the leadership of A.P. Savostyanov and with his direct participation, for the first time in Russia, the technology and pilot plant for the production of synthetic ceresine from natural gas were developed and implemented at the Y.M. Sverdlov Plant in the city of Dzerzhinsk.

Ten years ago, in 2011, Professor Savostyanov created the Research Institute "Nanotechnologies and New Materials" at the University, which works effectively, carrying out research activities at a high world level in cooperation with scientists of the IOH RAS. Zelinsky, IK SORAN im. Boreskova, OIVT RAS, Gubkin RUNG, European Synchrotron Radiation Center (ESRF, France), Karlsruhe Institute of Chemical Technology (Germany), Ilmenau Technical University (Germany), etc. With the active participation of this caring person, the material and methodological base of the center for collective use "Nanotechnology" has been created at the university, scientific laboratories "Catalysts and Catalytic Reactions", "Functional nanomaterials" have been reconstructed, which are effectively used both in the educational process and in research.

A.P. Savostyanov has achieved significant success in training highly qualified specialists for the chemical industry and scientific and pedagogical personnel: his students and postgraduates regularly receive awards from the Governor of the Rostov Region, become prize-winners and winners of All-Russian competitions and Olympiads, receive scholarships from the President of the Russian Federation. More than 300 graduates under his leadership successfully defended the diplomas of technological engineers.

Alexander Petrovich is an expert of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, RAS, a member of the academic and two dissertation councils of the University, editorial boards of three scientific journals.

Fruitful activity in the development of science and education brought the hero of the day the well-deserved title "Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation", he was awarded a Letter of Thanks from the Legislative Assembly of the Rostov region, the medal "For Services to the University", bears the honorary title "Honored Professor of the YURSPU (NPI)", the title "Laureate of the N.N. Zinin Prize".

In 2018, Alexander Petrovich Savostyanov was awarded the state award - gratitude of the President of the Russian Federation for his achievements in scientific and pedagogical activities, training of highly qualified specialists.
