THE NEXT GRANT OF THE RNF — AT THE POLYTECHNIC!

The project of Konstantin Shepelenko, a senior researcher at the Scientific Research Institute of NTNM YURSPU (NPI), Candidate of Chemical Sciences, "New methods of selective functionalization of furan compounds of platforms based on metal-catalyzed C-H and C-C activation reactions" was supported by the results of the 2021 competition for initiative research by young scientists of the Presidential Research Projects Program.

The research of a young scientist from Novocherkassk received financial support for 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. His project is aimed at developing new methods for the functionalization of furan platform compounds in the conditions of metal complex catalysis. Furan platform compounds are products of processing plant biomass (straw, husk, corn cobs, etc.). The developed methods will allow obtaining chemical reagents, fuel components, precursors of pharmaceutical substances and other valuable chemical compounds from cheap and easily accessible raw materials. Konstantin Shepelenko conducts his research as part of a team of scientists of the Research Institute of NTNM and personally V.M. Chernyshev.

- It is worth noting that the ongoing research is primarily of a fundamental nature. We are developing "tools", namely, methods and solutions that may be used in the future for the production of valuable chemical products," the scientist said. - The result of the research will be, first of all, articles in highly rated world-class journals. In these two years, we plan to publish at least three articles on the subject of the project in the world's leading journals, including the journals of the first quartile.
