OUR ANNIVERSARIES! NINA VLADIMIROVNA SMIRNOVA

Today, another "round" birthday is celebrated by Professor of the Department of Chemical Technology, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Nina Vladimirovna Smirnova. She can rightfully be called one of the brightest stars of the brilliant galaxy of polytechnic scientists, who from year to year multiply their own scientific fame and strengthen the reputation of YURGPU (NPI) as a center of modern research and promising projects!

Nina Vladimirovna continues the dynasty of chemists of the NPI, the founder of which was a professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR, Honorary Chemist of the USSR, rector of the NPI from 1974 to 1977. Vladimir Alexandrovich Smirnov (1928 – 1991) N. V. Smirnova is a worthy student and follower of her father, in her luggage there are a number of successfully implemented projects.

Professor Smirnova is a member of the International Electrochemical Society, has the Gratitude of the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin for success in scientific and creative activities, training of qualified specialists (2018)

Her research interests include electrochemistry, in particular the creation of materials for energy storage and conversion devices, photo– and photoelectrocatalysis, as well as the processing of biological resources in order to obtain new substances and materials - polymer and composite materials based on 5–hydroxymethylfurfural. N.V. Smirnova's scientific activity is aimed not only at fundamental research, but also has practical implementation. In particular, under the leadership of N.V. Smirnova created a power plant based on solid polymer fuel cells for a multicopter, a laboratory stand for the oxidation of furan compounds, a production line for the manufacture of bipolar plates for fuel cells.

Scientific research is supported by various scientific foundations: N.V. Smirnova is the head of projects supported by the Russian Science Foundation, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

Nina Vladimirovna is the supervisor of 3 graduate students. As an official supervisor, she has already trained three candidates of technical sciences in the specialty – Technology of electrochemical processes and corrosion protection. Courses taught in bachelor's and master's degree programs: physical and colloidal chemistry, hydrogen energy technologies.

According to the results of scientific research, scientists have published more than 140 works, including 10 textbooks on physical chemistry, colloidal chemistry, electrochemical energy, nanochemistry, and registered more than 10 Patents of the Russian Federation.

Nina Vladimirovna is a person who gives herself completely to her favorite business. She is always in the process, always on the lookout, always at the cutting edge of an ultra-relevant scientific search. Colleagues and students appreciate her for her talent, sensitivity, hard work and ability to see the future in everything.

Congratulations to Nina Vladimirovna and wishes of good health, never-ending creative energy, strength and new victories are joined today by the entire staff of the YURSPU (NPI), as well as numerous friends and partners of Professor Smirnova!
