The anniversary XX All-Russian Meeting "Electrochemistry of organic Compounds" ECHOS-2022 started on the basis of YURGPU (NPI) exactly on the birthday of the university on October 18. This professional meeting of electrochemists dates back to 1958, and has always been held with the active participation of Novocherkassk polytechnics.
The Novocherkassk School of Electrochemistry of Organic Compounds, founded by the outstanding Soviet electrochemist Lev Ivanovich Antropov, has existed for more than 70 years. Its most prominent representatives - Professors Vladimir Aleksandrovich Smirnov, Efim Sholomovich Kagan, Margarita Grigoryevna Smirnova, Evgeny Ivanovich Kovalenko - actively developed it. The scientific foundations of unique technologies for the electrochemical synthesis of valuable organic substances – monomers, polymers, biologically active preparations - were developed, stable traditions of training scientific personnel were created. Today, work in the field of electrocatalysis and electrosynthesis is continued by scientific groups led by Professors N.V. Smirnova, V.M. Chernyshev, Associate Professor V. P. Kashparova.
Another important area of work of NPI scientists is the research and development of catalyst technologies, which were started in 1966 under the leadership of Professor Konstantin Grigoryevich Ilyin. At first, work in the laboratory was carried out in the direction of the technology of catalysts for the oxidation of sulfur dioxide, then catalysts for the synthesis of hydrocarbons (Fischer-Tropsch synthesis). Within the framework of the ECHOS-2022 conference, a round table "Catalysis for solving energy and environmental problems" will be held, dedicated to the emergence and development of the scientific direction on catalysis at YURGPU (NPI): to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Professor K.G. Ilyin and the 50th anniversary of the creation of the laboratory "Catalysis and catalytic reactions".
Our university is hosting the meeting on its site for the fifth time. This year it is held as part of the implementation of the Priority 2030 program. Representatives of 52 organizations from 28 cities of Russia and other countries take part in it. These are venerable scientists, very young researchers, as well as students and postgraduates, for whom this meeting will be the first experience of conducting scientific discussions.
Among the participants is the head of the laboratory of the Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valentin Pavlovich Ananikov.
- On this festive day for the university, I am glad to note that there has been a cooperation agreement between the YURSPU (NPI) and the IOH RAS, which I represent here, for many years, which, I'm not afraid of this word, has given simply fantastic results, of which I am proud, - said Academician Ananikov. – During this time, the research work here has progressed from a good initial stage to the highest level! The university is constantly developing a laboratory and instrument base, there is an active personnel work, the education of young, promising scientists. And now, as time has passed, we have a team of world-class chemists who work in cutting-edge laboratory conditions. Scientists of the Faculty of Technology of the NPI carry out works marked by publications in the most rated scientific journals. These are not only the journals of the first quartile, but also the real top chemical journals. Our joint publication with NPI scientists has received the status of the most cited publication of the university for the entire time of its existence! Such a noticeable progress was the result of a combination of several factors: really talented people work here who are not afraid to experiment, are not afraid to work hard and, most importantly, strive to convey their ideas to a wide audience! I am proud of my colleagues and I am sure that there are many more interesting joint projects ahead of us.
Director of the Institute of Solid State Chemistry and Mechanochemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Member-cor. RAS A.P. Nemudry – for the first time in our university. And this visit, which fell on the anniversary days, the scientist will surely remember forever!
- I arrived at the NPI today with a special, trembling feeling. The fact is that in the 50s of the last century, my parents graduated from your university: my father is a mining faculty, my mother is an electromechanical one," said Alexander Petrovich. – I was born in Novosibirsk, got a higher education there and continue to live and work until now. But I felt a connection with Novocherkassk Polytechnic, and I am very glad that today, finally, my personal acquaintance with your university took place. Impressions, I must say, are the brightest! I am amazed by everything – both the architectural complex of the university and its huge scientific potential. I think this visit will not be the last.
Among the participants of the event are also the head of the Laboratory of Electrochemical Synthesis of the A. E. Arbuzov Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry of the Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Yu.G. Budnikova, Professors N.A. Kononenko and I. V. Falina from Kuban State University, head of the Laboratory of Electrode Processes in Liquid Systems of the Federal Research Center for Problems of Chemical Physics and Medical Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences Professor E.V. Zolotukhina.
The joint work of scientists will last until October 22. It is planned to discuss the latest achievements in the field of electrochemistry of organic and organoelement compounds, hydrogen energy, carbon neutrality technologies and low-tonnage chemistry, which will contribute to progress in this important field of knowledge from a theoretical and practical point of view. The meeting aims to combine the unique potential of the Russian School of Electrochemistry of Organic Compounds to create fundamentally new technological processes that will ensure the sustainable development of Russia.
