The program "Priority 2030"
To implement the carbon-free energy strategy, it is necessary to solve the problem of accumulation, storage and delivery of hydrogen to consumers. The accumulation of hydrogen in the form of ammonia is promising. One volume of liquid ammonia contains 1.7 times more hydrogen than liquid hydrogen. Ammonia has a higher density in terms of hydrogen content than gaseous, liquid hydrogen and metal hydrides. The cost of transporting hydrogen in ammonia is 20 times less than the transportation and storage of compressed hydrogen.
Hydrogen is obtained from ammonia by dissociating ammonia into nitrogen and hydrogen (ratio N2 / H2 = 1/3). The development of effective catalysts and equipment is fundamentally important for the implementation of the process. In the technological strategy for the development of hydrogen energy in the Russian Federation until 2050, the list of technologies, the creation or localization of production of which is necessary for the development of hydrogen energy, highlights the prospects of conducting research on the binding of hydrogen into ammonia and other hydrogen carriers, for example, methylcyclohexane. The project corresponds to the priority direction of the Strategy of the NTR of the Russian Federation, 20 b (N2) "Transition to environmentally friendly and resource-saving energy, increasing the efficiency of extraction and deep processing of hydrocarbon raw materials, the formation of new sources, methods of transportation and storage of energy."
During the implementation of the project, catalysts for the decomposition of ammonia will be developed, their physicochemical and technological properties will be investigated, variants of technological schemes will be developed and optimal technological parameters of the process of generating hydrogen from ammonia will be determined.
